Robinsons Bookshop Web Redesign

When looking at Robinson’s Books’ website, I saw an opportunity to challenge myself to create a refreshed digital shopping experience within a short time frame of a weekend. My goal was to redesign the homepage and create a better user experience for a customer shopping for books.

Problems Identified

  • Unfriendly to mobile — The store's mobile interface was not considered at all, creating a less engaging experience for mobile devices.

  • Unintuitive purchase flow — The process of evaluating and purchasing books was not intuitive, hindering conversions.

  • Hard to discover — Users struggled to find books that matched their preferences, with a confusing website layout.

How could I transform the website shopping experience into an accessible and engaging storefront?

Design principles

  • Minimise complexity and cognitive load by presenting information in a clear, concise, and easily digestible manner.

  • Have a forward-thinking approach that ensures the storefront can readily adapt to new content, features, and user needs.

  • Enable eCommerce growth by creating a user-friendly mobile shopping experience, which will also enhance the in-store shopping experience.

The process:

As this was a quick turnaround, my focus when conducting a site audit and competitor research was specifically on one user flow: Finding a book from the homepage and purchasing it.

Next Steps

This was a quick project however I would love to revisit this and potentially create a brand redesign and explore creating a book store and comic book store within one website.
